Vedic astrology strongly believes that there is a force call it what you may, that shapes human lives. Vedic Astrology identifies this force as Karma (action). Vedic astrology also believes that the present Karma (actions) of human beings are conditioned by past Karmas, and the karmas that we do in the present, shape our future. Universe is an intricately organized and meticulously run operation as per Vedic astrology. It runs smoothly because every constituent of this gigantic operation is allocated specific tasks. Universe is a harmonious place and to be in harmony one has to accept limitations, specifically, our actions have to conform to the limitations laid out by the actions of others. Each human birth takes place to carry out its allocated task in accordance with its past karmas. This allocation of tasks is Fate or Destiny. Vedic astrology believes that natal position of the planets is a complete picture of the life of the native and this is dependent on his past karma .What needs to be understood is that our natures, our inclinations, our outlooks are conditioners all have been granted to us by our past. Free will is the agency that produces activity, action, the karma and prepares the conditioning for the future. Fate and free will are totally interlinked. Astrology is the science which illuminates and explains the complex link between fate and free will. It can calculate the limitations so that one can know the best time for a certain type of action. It can gauge the task that a particular man has been allocated and then it can match the two, so that the man's actions are dovetailed into his tasks in a harmonious fashion..
The harmonizing of the patterns of action with the life's task can be explained by an example. Imagine a cow is tied to a peg by a tether. The peg is 'Fate' or 'Destiny' There is nothing the cow can do about it. The tether is Free will. Its elasticity and its length are decided by past and present karmas. The cow can do what she wants within the area covered by the tether. If she decides, she can fall in a pit or carefully avoid doing so.
For non astrologers the debate about fate and free will is purely philosophical. For the astrologer it is not a debate but only a question of developing more and more of his ability to see it, as he alone can see it, since astrology, better described as Jyotish, is a pratuaksha sastra or a proofs filled subject of classical learning.
What the astrologer can see astrologically can be divided into two parts:
That area where destiny must prevail and man has no choice.
That area where man can exercise his freewill to improve the best of the predestined results or overcome the predestined misfortunes, partly, may be even fully. I t is however debatable whether man can ever overcome completely his pre destined misfortune.
A good astrologer can tell you about your fate or destiny and the positive and negative trends in different aspects of your life like Love, Money, Health, Career, Business, Travel and everything else. He can advise you a number of career avenues in which you will be successful . But he can not say which one you will take up because this is your prerogative. Thus how do you use this information it totally depends on your free will. How much success you will get in any aspect of your life is totally limited to your own chart. An astrologer can give you time period when you will gain money but it does not mean that you will gain millions of dollars as you may not be destined to get millions of dollars as per your own chart. But there will be monetary gain or there will not be losses that you might otherwise have.
